Case, Schellenberg Lead Crusaders, but Shorter Rallies in First-Round Match

PEMBROKE, N.C. -- 12th-seeded Belmont Abbey took No. 7 seed Shorter the wire Sunday afternoon, but dropped a 3-2 (25-15, 24-26, 17-25, 25-16, 15-6) decision to the Hawks in the first round of the Conference Carolinas Women's Volleyball Tournament. After dropping the first set, the Crusaders won the second and third before Shorter rallied in the fourth and fifth. 

The Abbey ends its season at 7-21 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Case hit .375 in the contest, registering 16 kills against one error in 40 chance. The double-figure effort was the 11th of the season for the sophomore.
  • Lola Sultenfuss reached double figures in kills for the sixth time in 2024 with 11.
  • Ella Schellenberg posted her sixth double-double of the season and 13th of her career with 39 assists and 11 digs. She also had a pair of service aces.
  • Riley Nickol led the defensive effort with 16 digs, equaling her career best, while also serving two aces.
  • Mallory Swain (14) and Kyleigh Coghlan (12) also reached double figures in digs.
