YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. — The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team saw its 2024 season come to an end as the Crusaders fell 3-0 to Young Harris Sunday night in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Conference Carolinas Tournament at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Complex.
The Crusaders finish the year 8-8-3 after being unbeaten in its last five matches prior to Sunday.
Young Harris is now 11-2-4 overall and advance to face No. 1 seed Chowan Friday at Bryan Park in the tournament semifinals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emrick Stanley took the first shot for the Crusaders in the seventh minute.
- Young Harris got on the board in the 27th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
- Greer Hopkins took two of his team-high three shots in the first half.
- The Mountain Lions added two more goals in the second half in the 51st and 61st minutes, respectively.
- Belmont Abbey's only shot on goal came with just over 90 seconds in the match from Josh Gregg. The Crusaders had 10 shots total on the night.
- Belmont Abbey had six corner kicks compared to five for Young Harris.
- Trent McConnaughey made four saves on the night for the Abbey with Jackson Bennett earning a save in his second appearance of the season.
