BELMONT, N.C. – Cate Schieber set a new career-high scoring mark as part of a season-best offensive output for Belmont Abbey as the Crusaders defeated Erskine 83-39 Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas contest at the Wheeler Center.
Schieber finished with 23 points, including 7 of 11 from 3-point range, to lead all scorers in the contest. She also added five rebounds, a steal and blocked shot.
Abigail Crain also finished in double figures scoring with 11 and had three assists and three rebounds.
The Crusaders shot 56.5 percent from the field and had a season-best 22 assists. The team also had 40 rebounds led by 14 from
Peyton Nation.
Belmont Abbey improves to 13-5 overall and 7-1 in Conference Carolinas play. Erskine is now 3-12 overall, 1-7 in the league following Saturday's result.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey led Erskine 7-5 early before the Crusaders closed on a 9-0 run highlighted by a 3-pointer as time expired from Dearia Page to end the quarter. Page finished with nine points off the bench.
- The 5 points allowed by The Abbey was the fewest allowed in a first quarter this year.
- The Crusaders scored eight unanswered points to begin the second quarter.
- Riley James finished with seven assists on the afternoon for the Crusaders.
- Belmont Abbey finished with nine steals including two each from Madison Lusk and Catherine Hendershott.
- Emily Driver played in her first game of the season, scoring four points over the final five minutes.
- The Crusaders outrebounded the Flying Fleet 40-20 in the contest.
- Saturday's contest marked the sixth straight contest that the Crusaders held an opponent under 50 points. It was also the third time in the last four games the team has held an opponent under 40 points.
- It was the fourth time this year the Crusaders led a game from wire-to-wire.

- The Crusaders will play their next three games on the road starting Monday at 5 p.m. at Mount Olive.
