MURFREESBORO, N.C. — Garrett Browder hit two home runs and the Belmont Abbey baseball team matched its season high in runs with a 16-3 victory over Chowan Saturday at Hawkins Field.
The Crusaders ended up taking the series over the Hawks by getting off to a fast start and later breaking the game open with an eight-run seventh inning.
Belmont Abbey improved to 24-11 overall and 10-11 in Conference Carolinas play. Chowan is now 4-22 overall, 3-15 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
	- Browder got the scoring started for The Abbey with a three-run home run in the first inning.
 
	- The Crusaders extended the lead in the fourth inning with a solo home run by Caleb Burr.
 
	- After the Hawks got a run in the bottom of the fourth, Browder hit his second home run of the day in the fifth. It was a two run home run that gave Belmont Abbey a 6-1 lead.
 
	- The Crusaders added two more runs in the fifth with an RBI single by Burr and an RBI by Connor Powell, who drew a walk with the bases loaded.
 
	- Ethan Wilson earned the win after pitching into the sixth inning of Saturday's contest. He finished with nine strikeouts on the day.
 
	- Belmont Abbey broke through with an eight-run seventh inning highlighted by a three run home run by Carter DuHaime and a two-run home run by Powell.
 
	- Ben Ferguson reached base in five of his six plate appearances by drawing four walks.
 
	- Six Crusaders finished with multiple hits on the day.
 
	- The Belmont Abbey pitching staff also recorded 17 strikeouts on the day which is a new season high.

	- The Crusaders play two more games next week before beginning Easter break.
