BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team continued its run of strong play in a 19-3 victory over Catawba Wednesday evening at Alumni Field.
Riley D'Andrea led the way offensively for the Crusaders with six goals and an assist followed by four goals and an assist from
Olivia Carlino. In total, nine different Crusaders scored a goal in the win.
Belmont Abbey won its fourth straight game and are now 4-2 on the season. Catawba is now 1-5 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders got off to a fast start by scoring the first five goals of the game, all of them coming from either D'Andrea or Carlino.
- Emma Pherson scored the first of her two goals to open the second quarter. Hailey Carroll and Grace Ridge also scored in the period.
- Christina Fabrizio's goal with less than two minutes left in the half activated the 10-goal running clock rule. It is the third straight game Fabrizio has scored a goal.
- Kacey Kubarewicz added a pair of goals in the second half for the Crusaders.
- The Crusaders finished with a season-high 30 ground balls in the contest and caused 12 turnovers. That number also matches a season best.
- Carlino and Emma Pherson each had four ground balls while Lexi Helms had three.
- Belmont Abbey also finished with 35 shots, marking the fourth straight game the team has passed 30 shots in a game.
- Michelle Guppy made four saves in the contest.
