Crusaders Take On No. 3 West Chester As Homestand Continues

BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team faced off against one of the top teams in the country in No. 3 West Chester Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. The Crusaders were looking to extend their winning streak to five games but it was the Golden Rams who came away with the 19-6 victory.

Olivia Carlino led the way for The Abbey with three goals and an assist. Riley D'Andrea had a two-point day for the Crusaders with a goal and an assist.

West Chester remains unbeaten on the season at 4-0. Belmont Abbey is now 4-3 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Carlino got the Crusaders on the scoreboard with her first goal coming at 9:07 left in the opening quarter.
  • After falling behind 9-1, Belmont Abbey had a run of three straight goals in the second quarter scored by Emma Pherson, D'Andrea and Kacey Kubarewicz, respecticely.
  • D'Andrea had an assist on Kubarewicz goal while Hailey Carroll and Carlino each recorded assists during the run.
  • Carlino accounted for both of Belmont Abbey's goals in the second half.
  • The Crusaders finished with 10 caused turnovers. It is the fifth time that the Crusaders have reached double figures in a game this season.
  • Michelle Guppy made nine saves on the afternoon for the Crusaders. She also led the team with eight ground balls.
  • Pherson led the team with six draw controls.

  • The Crusaders reached the midway point of the six-game homestand.
  • Belmont Abbey faces Embry-Riddle in a non-conference contest next Saturday at 11 a.m. at Alumni Field.
