WINGATE, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team got its 2023 season underway as the Crusaders faced Wingate Wednesday at Irwin Belk Stadium.
Belmont Abbey scored the first two goals of the game but it was the Bulldogs who came away with the 15-3 victory.
Olivia Carlino scored two goals with
Hailey Carroll adding the other.
Kate Roberts and
Sophia Browning each added an assist.
Wednesday's game marked the season opener for both teams.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Carroll's goal came just 1:35 into the contest with the Roberts assist.
- Carlino added her goal less than a minute later to make it 2-0 in favor of the Crusaders.
- Wingate pulled even at 2-2 to close the first quarter.
- The second goal from Carlino came with 40 seconds left in the contest off the second career assist from Browning.
- The Crusaders finished with 23 shots, 15 on goal. Carlino led the team with five shots.
- Michelle Guppy had 13 saves for The Abbey and had nine ground balls to lead in that category.
