BELMONT, N.C. -- Four players -- including freshman
Trinity Wall -- enjoyed multiple-hit games, but Belmont Abbey dropped both games of its season-opening doubleheader, 4-0 and 13-4 to Catawba Tuesday afternoon.
The Crusaders were originally scheduled to open on Friday, but the games were postponed due to expected weather. The Indians evened their record at 5-5.
THE OPENER
- Sydney Pon had two of the Crusaders' four hits.
- Adison Yoder and Bailey Presley also registered hits.
- Catawba plated all four of its runs in the fourth inning on a two-run single and a two-run home run.
- Starting pitcher Alannah Browne (0-1) took the loss for the Crusaders. She allowed four  runs in 3.0 innings.
THE NIGHTCAP
- Hallie Mele, Shelby Sosebee and Trinity Wall each had two hits. For Wall, a freshman, they were her first collegiate hits.
- The Crusaders tallied two in the first, one in the second and one in the third to lead 4-3, but were outscored 10-0 over the final four innings.
- Six errors led to five unearned runs for Catawba.
- Yoder (0-1)Â took the loss as the starter, allowing seven runs in 3.2 innings.
