Hitting, Pitching Lead Crusaders to Sweep of St. Andrews

BELMONT, N.C. -- Alannah Browne hit a three-run home run and pitched a complete game to start the doubleheader, while a nine-run first inning keyed the nightcap as Belmont Abbey swept St. Andrews 9-1 and 11-1 in college softball action Friday afternoon. Both games ended in five innings.

The wins were the first of the year for the Crusaders (2-2), while the Knights fall to 2-6 overall.

THE OPENER
  • Browne and Sydney Pon both went 2-for-3 in the contest. Browne drove in four, the first on an RBI single in the third and three more on her fourth-inning blast over the left field wall.
  • Pon scored three in the contest, while Shelby Sosebee and Bailey Presley crossed the plate twice each.
  • Sosebee, Mackenzie Sprinkle and Giovana Rodriguez rounded out the seven-hit attack.
  • In the circle, Browne scattered five hits and walked one, while striking out six. She threw all five innings, allowing a single run.
THE NIGHTCAP
  • Belmont Abbey sent 13 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first, collecting six hits and plating nine.Trinity Wall, Mackenzie Allison and Hallie Mele each had two-run singles in the frame.
  • Mele finished the game with three hits, while Presley, Wall, Allison and Jordan Stefani adding two hits apiece.
  • Stefan delivered a two-run single in the fourth and an RBI single in the first.
  • Adison Yoder improved to 1-1 with the complete-game victory. She allowed just one unearned run and five hits over five innings.

  • The Crusaders wrap up their season-opening six-game homestand tomorrow afternoon.
