GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team opened up its road schedule with a game at Limestone Wednesday evening at the Timken Center.
Three Crusaders reached double figures but it was the Saints who used a big fourth quarter to earn a 63-55 win over The Abbey.
Abigail Crain led Belmont Abbey with 15 points and nine rebounds while
Dearia Page finished with 14 points and seven rebounds from off the bench.
Peyton Nation also had double figures scoring for the second straight game with 10 points and added five rebounds to go with two steals.
Belmont Abbey is now 2-1 on the season following the loss while Limestone is 3-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Limestone jumped out to an early 6-2 lead before the Crusaders rallied and took a 16-13 lead thanks to a 3-pointer from Katherine Bischoping.
- The Crusaders led by eight points at halftime.
- Nation scored the first four points of the second half for the Crusaders.
- Belmont Abbey took a six-point lead into the fourth quarter but the Saints responded with an 11-5 run in the fourth quarter.
- The Crusaders were held to two field goals in the final four minutes.
- The Abbey out-rebounded Limestone 40-30 during the contest. The team had six steals and Reagan Iovino recorded a blocked shot.
- Catherine Hendershott finished with eight points and seven rebounds and also had a pair of assists.
- Katie Story made her first career start for the Crusaders.
