BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey women's soccer faced off against the top-seeded UNC Pembroke Braves Sunday evening in the 2023 Conference Carolinas Women's Soccer Championship Sunday evening at Bryan Park.
Logan Parry tallied her 19th goal of the season for the Crusaders but it was the Braves who earned the 2-1 victory to take the title. Belmont Abbey was playing in its first Conference Carolinas championship match since the 2019 season.
The 19 goals tied with UNC Pembroke's Mercy Bell for the national lead in goals scored.
Belmont Abbey is now 11-3-4 on the season while UNC Pembroke is 12-3-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UNC Pembroke scored two goals in the first 2:55 of the match.
- Reagan Cullen took the first shot for the Crusaders in the 22nd minute.
- Haley Long took the lone shot on goal in the first 45 minutes for The Abbey.
- The Crusaders did not go away as Logan Parry tallied her team-leading 19th goal of the season less than four minutes into the second half. Long was credited with the assist.
- Belmont Abbey out-shot UNC Pembroke 8-5 in the second half.
- Paige D'Agostin led The Abbey with three shots for the contest.
- The Crusaders took two shots on goal in the final 10 minutes to keep the pressure on the Braves.
- Following the match, Parry, Sabrina Cunha and Mia Muckenthaler were all recognized as members of the all-tournament team.
