WINGATE, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey placed four in double figures -- led by
Wade Jackson's 18 points -- leading the Crusaders to a 73-70 victory over Mars Hill Saturday in the second game of the Kyle Honore Memorial Tipoff Challenge, hosted by Wingate.
Kyle Frazier,
Mason Taylor and
Jaiden Rivera also reached the mark.
The Abbey split two games on the opening weekend for a 1-1 record, while the Mountain Lions fell to 0-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- All four of Jackson's field goals came from behind the arc. He also made six of seven free throws, including a pair with 25 seconds left that extend the lead to four.
- Frazier also hit four threes en route to 17 points, while Taylor finished with 12 and Rivera 11.
- Taylor connected on a three-pointer that stopped a late rally of six straight points, bumping the lead to 71-65 with 1:05 to play.
- Rivera was also the leading rebounder with eight.
- The Crusaders forced 16 turnovers, while committing only 14. The numbers led to an 18-9 advantage in points off turnovers.
- BAC trailed early and 5-1 and 8-6 before taking the lead for good on a Jackson three.
- The largest lead was 11 at 66-55 with 4:40 remaining.
