SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Three players topped double figures in scoring, but a 13-3 run over the final 2:28 lifted Converse to a 71-65 victory in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action Saturday afternoon. The scoring spurt started with nine straight points after a
Charles Solomon layup put the Crusaders up four, 62-58, at the 2:53 mark.
The setback was the second straight after a wins in 13 of the previous 15 outings and dropped The Abbey to 13-8, 9-4. Converse improved to 11-11, 9-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wade Jackson led the scoring with 16 points, while KJ Garrett added 14 points and three assists.
- Solomon tallied 12 points to round out the double-figure scorers.
- Mario Lacy, Jr., grabbed a team-high five rebounds. The Valkyries held a 36-22 advantage on the boards.
- The teams' shooting percentages were close with Converse holding a slight 50.0 to 49.1 percent advantage.
- The game featured six ties and nine lead changes. Belmont Abbey held a lead for 31:07, while the Valkyries were ahead for just 4:48.
