BELMONT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey opened its 2023 men's volleyball home schedule with a hard-fought battle against Long Island. But in the end, the Sharks earned a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-17) decision over the Crusaders.

With the result, The Abbey falls to 1-3 on the season, while LIU is now 1-0 after its season opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Matteo Miselli tallied seven kills, while Jay Beller and Ethan Rehmann had six each.
• Matthew Maxwell led The Abbey in both assists (24) and digs (8).
• The Crusaders hit just .154 as a team, compared to .376 for the Sharks. Beller hit .556, while Rehmann connected at a .417 pace.
• Miselli, Beller and Alex Winiarczyk each served an ace.
