SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team wrapped up a two-game road trip with a Conference Carolinas match Saturday against Converse.
After a scoreless first half, both teams accounted for five goals in the second half with Converse coming away with a 3-2 victory.
Both goals for the Crusaders came from freshman with Sebastian Rodriguez scoring his first career goal while Connor Jeanes scored his second goal of the season via penalty kick.
Belmont Abbey is now 1-6-3 overall and 0-2-3 in Conference Carolinas. Converse is now 6-1-1 and 4-0 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kevin Daly took the first shot of the match for the Crusaders midway through the first half.
- Converse got on the board with its first goal a minute into the second half.
- Rodriguez pulled Belmont Abbey even at 1-1 with his goal in the 62nd minute. Jorge Aguilar was credited with the assist.
- The next two goals happened two minutes apart from each other with Converse's Sergi Quixal and Jeanes scoring on penalty kicks.
- The Valkyries got the game-winning goal in the 84th minute.
- Will Whitman finished with two saves in goal for The Abbey.
- The Crusaders finished with six shots for the match, all of them on goal.
