WILSON, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team earned its first win of the season Tuesday with a 2-1 victory over Barton Tuesday in a Conference Carolinas match at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex.
Logan Parry and
Goose Andrews scored their second goals of the season while
Brianna Sroka made her first start of the season and made a pair of saves to help the Crusaders come away with the victory.
Belmont Abbey moved to 1-3-2 overall and is 1-1-1 in conference play. Barton is now 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey was the aggressor early with nine shots in the first half, five on goal.
- Parry's goal came in the 18th minute of the first half as she was able to score off a rebound on a header that the Barton goalkeeper saved.
- The Bulldogs pulled even at 1-1 in the 29th minute with a penalty kick goal.
- Mia Muckenthaler had one shot on goal in her first start of the season for the Crusaders. She and Olivia Ivey made their first appearances of the season.
- The Crusaders took the lead for good thanks to Andrews' goal in the 52nd minute off an assist from Anna Richard. It is the second time in three contests that Richard has earned an assist.
- Belmont Abbey was able to hold off a late charge from Barton as Sroka made a key save in the final 40 seconds of the match to help the Crusaders secure the victory.
- Tuesday's contest marked the first win of Sroka's collegiate career.
- The Crusaders finished with 17 shots and nine shots on goal compared to the 14 and three, respectively for the Bulldogs.
