GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Belmont Abbey baseball team extended its longest winning streak of the season to six games thanks to an 18-6 win over Lander Tuesday at Dolny Stadium. The contest was rescheduled from February when it was postponed due to weather.

Ben Gobbel once again led the way for the Crusaders, finishing 4-for-5 with a home run and triple while driving in five runs.
The Crusaders moved to 31-15 on the season while the Bearcats are now 20-26.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Gobbel got the scoring started with a leadoff home run to right-center field to lead in the top of the second inning.
- After falling behind 2-1 entering the third inning, Belmont Abbey broke the game open with a seven-run third inning.
- The scoring in the frame started when Ben Ferguson drew a walk with the bases loaded. Gobbel gave The Abbey the lead for good with a two-run single in his next at bat.
- Kale Rhame added a two-run double and later scored on a balk. The scoring concluded with a sacrifice fly by Brennan Martin to make it an 8-2 lead.
- The Crusaders added two more runs in the fourth with an RBI single from Zach Aehlert and another sacrifice fly from Martin.
- Adam Overcash made it 11-2 in favor of Belmont Abbey after he scored on a wild pitch in the fifth.
- Nic Aehlert earned the win by pitching 3.2 innings of relief and striking out six batters while allowing just one run on three hits.
- The Bearcats got back to within 11-6 entering the eighth inning before Belmont Abbey scored three runs in the eighth highlighted by an RBI triple from Gobbel.
- The Crusaders added four more runs in the ninth inning to complete the scoring.
- Connor Tucker drove in the final run for The Abbey with an RBI single to left field which was his third hits of the game.
- Rhame and Ferguson had two hits each for the Crusaders.
- The 18 runs is the most for Belmont Abbey in a game since scoring 21 in a victory against Barton March 19.
- Belmont Abbey has scored 10 or more runs in five of the last six games.
UP NEXT
- The Crusaders close the regular season with their final Conference Carolinas series of the season with a three-game series at Chowan.
- The two teams open with a doubleheader beginning at noon Friday followed by a single game at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
- Belmont Abbey is currently in line for the No. 3 seed in the Conference Carolinas Tournament next week in Wilson, N.C. with the chance to move up to the No. 2 seed pending other results.
