FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA. – The Belmont Abbey men's tennis team completed an unbeaten Conference Carolinas schedule Friday thanks to a 5-2 victory over Emmanuel Friday in the regular season finale for the Crusaders.
Based on available records dating back to 1996, it is the first time that the Crusaders have finished the regular season undefeated.
Belmont Abbey got off to a good start against the Lions with the doubles teams of
Zachary Blythe/
Nelson Stafford and
Alex Turner/
Andres Golindano earning victories to win the doubles point.
The Crusaders followed that up with four victories in singles play with
Nicholas Cary,
Nelson Stafford,
Zachary Blythe and
Kent Shiell all earning victories. Blythe's 6-4, 6-0 win in No. 2 singles over Nathan Benoit proved to be the clinching point for The Abbey.
Belmont Abbey concludes the regular season at 20-16 overall and 10-0 in the league. Emmanuel is 10-11 overall and 6-3 in the conference and concludes the season with its final match Saturday.

- Belmont Abbey will be the top seed at the Conference Carolinas Tournament that is slated to begin April 29 at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, South Carolina.
- The Crusaders will play either the No. 4, 5 or 8 seed in the semifinal match at 9 a.m. April 30.
