BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey men's tennis team closed out its home schedule with a 7-0 sweep of King Tuesday at the Reidy Tennis Center. The victory moved the Crusaders to 9-0 in Conference Carolinas play and officially clinched the regular season outright conference title. This is the second straight year that the team has earned at least a share of the title during the regular season.
The Crusaders got off to a good start with a sweep in doubles play to earn a point and earning wins in all six singles matches.
Kai Lloveras was the first Crusader to complete his match with a 6-0, 6-1 win in No. 6 singles while
Andres Golindano and
Zachary Blythe finished within seconds of each other to clinch. Golindano won his match 6-2, 7-5 while Blythe won 6-1, 6-4. As he did during the previous match against Converse,
Kent Shiell closed out the dual with a 7-5, 6-3 win to complete the sweep.
Belmont Abbey is 19-16 overall while King is 3-10 overall and 0-8 in the league.
