FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA. – The Belmont Abbey softball team went on the road to face Emmanuel in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader as part of the team's last week of regular season road games Tuesday.
The Crusaders were swept in both games by the Lions, however, falling 3-2 in eight innings in Game 1 and 7-2 in Game 2.
Belmont Abbey is now 24-11 overall and 11-7 in Conference Carolinas. Emmanuel is 30-17 with an identical 11-7 record in league play.
GAME 1
- Cameron Cooper recorded the first hit of the game for the Crusaders in the top of the second inning with a one-out single to center field.
- Bailey Presley finished with two hits and reached safely on an error to lead the way offensively for Belmont Abbey.
- Trailing 2-0 entering the seventh inning, Emily Morgan had a one-out single and Hallie Mele walked two batters later to help the Crusaders tie the game off a two-run triple by Presley.
- Starting pitcher Abby Craver struck out four in 7.1 innings.
GAME 2
- Cooper put the Crusaders on the board with a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning.
- The Crusaders' second run came in the fifth inning with another RBI single from Presley.
- Emma Frye had the other base hit in the second game for Belmont Abbey and also reached on an error.
UP NEXT
- The Crusaders will play their final road contests of the regular season as they face Chowan in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Murfreesboro, N.C.
- The doubleheader was rescheduled from March 25 due to inclement weather.
- This also marks the final games scheduled before Easter break.
