INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Belmont Abbey has been seeded eighth and will face No. 1 seed and host Augusta in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional, the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball selection committee announced tonight. The game will take place on Saturday at a time to be announced.

The appearance is the third straight and sixth overall by the Crusaders. Previous trips to the tournament came in 2002, 2003, 2013, 2020 and 2021 with The Abbey holding a 1-4 all-time record.

The Crusaders (22-9) earned an automatic bid by winning the Conference Carolinas Tournament on Sunday, 79-73 over ninth-ranked UNC Pembroke. The win was the 17th in 20 games during the 2022 calendar year after a 5-6 standing following a loss to the Braves on Dec. 18.

Augusta (28-3) was the regular-season and tournament champions of the Peach Belt Athletic Conference and has won 14 straight contests.
