Gobbel Records Three Hits Against Coker

BELMONT, N.C. – Ben Gobbel finished with three hits to lead Belmont Abbey against Coker in a nonconference game Tuesday at Abbey Yard.
 
The Crusaders were able to secure an early lead but it was the Cobras who came away with the 8-7 victory.
 
Belmont Abbey is now 19-9 on the season while Coker is 10-19.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After falling behind 1-0 to Coker early, Belmont Abbey quickly gained the lead in the bottom in the first inning with a two-run home run to take a 2-1 lead.
  • Coker pulled even at 2-2 in the top of the second inning but it was Sean Johnson who gave The Abbey a 4-2 lead with a two-run double.
  • The Cobras again pulled even at 4-4 in the fifth inning before Belmont Abbey responded with another two-run frame.
  • Martin earned an RBI on a fielders' choice and Zach Aehlert scored on a Coker throwing error to make it 6-4.
  • Martin finished with a team-high three stolen bases as part of the seven recorded for the Crusaders.
  • Connor Tucker hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning to make it 8-7.
  • Adam Overcash and Zach Aehlert had two hits each for the Crusaders as well.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Crusaders resume Conference Carolinas play with a three-game series against UNC Pembroke beginning at 5 p.m. Friday at Abbey Yard.
