Hallie Mele went 4-for-9 on the day, as the Belmont Abbey Softball team split with Mount Olive this afternoon by scored of 11-2 and 12-11. The Crusaders now stand at 14-5 on the year, with a 1-1 conference record. UMO moves to 20-6 overall, and 3-1 in Conference Carolinas play.
THE OPENER
- Hailey Gass scored the first run of the day, off a single by Mele in the fifth inning
- Mount Olive tied the game in the seventh, before scoring 10 runs in the eighth
- Afton Jessee scored in the bottom of the inning, but the Trojans took the game 11-2
- Abby Craver pitched 7.2 innings
THE NIGHTCAP
- The nightcap was a shootout, with The Abbey scoring 10 runs in the first three innings
- Payton Whitley hit a double to right center, and later scored on a fielder's choice
- Kellee Branham scored on a wild pitch to cap off the scoring in the first
- In the second, it was Emma Frye reaching on a single to score Jessee, and later scored on a throwing error
- Sydney Pon started the third inning off with a single, and later scored on a single by Whitley. Whitley scored the final run of the inning on a Branham single
- The Trojans scored six runs in the sixth to tie the game at 11. Then in the bottom of the seventh, Bailey Presley knocked a double to right center to bring home Gass for the game-winning run
- 10 Crusaders scored in the game
- Craver got the win for The Abbey, moving her record to 8-2 on the season
