Sean Halloran and
Chandler Baker each tallied 12 points, but a hot-shooting Augusta team led the top-seeded and fifth-ranked Jaguars to a 106-77 victory over Belmont Abbey in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional.
The Crusaders, making their third straight NCAA Tournament appearance, ended the season at 22-10, while Augusta (29-3) plays in the regional semifinal tomorrow night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- LJ McCoy added 11 points, while Bosco Bojovic tallied 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
- The Abbey, which entered the contest shooting 53.4 percent for the season, hit just 40.9 percent from the field. It was just the fourth time all season that the Crusaders fell below 41 percent.
- Meanwhile the Jaguars connected at a 59.2 percent clip, second-highest by an opponent all year. The total included 13 of 21Â (61.9 percent) from three-point range.
- Belmont Abbey held a 39-32 rebounding advantage, but also had 14 turnovers to the Jags' five.
- After Belmont Abbey took a 3-2 lead on an LJ McCoy three, the Jaguars ran off 10 straight points and 13 of the next 15 and never trailed again.
- The Crusaders cut the lead to eight three times before the nine-minute mark of the half, but Augusta scored nine straight to push the lead to 20 with 6;05 to play before intermission.
- The game marked the final appearance for four seniors -- Halloran, McCoy, Bojovic and Emanuel Hernandez.
