Johnson Homers For Abbey Against Catawba

BELMONT, N.C. – Sean Johnson hit his fourth home run of the season for the Belmont Abbey baseball team during a nonconference game against Catawba Tuesday at Abbey Yard.

It got the Crusaders on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning but it was the Indians who came away with a 7-3 victory.

Belmont Abbey is now 11-5 overall while Catawba is 9-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Evan Campbell made his first start of the season for the Crusaders after making his first five appearances of the season in relief.
  • Johnson's two-run home in the third inning was the first hit of the game for The Abbey after Brady Emerson had reached base after being hit by a pitch. The Crusaders trailed 3-0 prior to the start of the inning.
  • Andrew Glauber and Trey Cruz were able to work out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth inning without allowing a run.
  • After the Indians made it 5-2 in the fifth inning, the Crusaders got a run closer at 5-3 when Patrick Taylor scored on a Catawba throwing error.
  • Taylor and Connor Tucker had led the inning off with back-to-back singles.
  • Zach Aehlert hit his seventh double of the season to lead off the ninth inning. Aehlert and Johnson are currently tied for the team lead.

UP NEXT
  • The Crusaders resume Conference Carolinas play with a three-game series against Emmanuel starting at 5 p.m. Friday at Abbey Yard.
  • The series continues with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday. It is the first home conference series of the season for The Abbey.
