Carlino, D'Andrea Score Five Each in Win Over Erskine

BELMONT, N.C. - Olivia Carlino and Riley D'Andrea scored five goals each and the Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team rolled to a 28-5 win over Erskine today.  The Abbey is now 2-2 on the season, while Erskine dipped to 0-3.  It was the conference opener for both teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • D'Andrea scored 1:17 into the contest and the Crusaders never trailed after that.  Later in the quarter, D'Andrea scored two goals in less than a minute
  • She also scored the final Crusader goal of the period, and Belmont Abbey led 11-1 at the end of the opening quarter
  • Carlino scored each of the first two goals of the second.  Joy Perry made it a 15-1 lead before the Flying Fleet scored a goal at the 6:18 mark
  • Sophia Browning scored in the final 30 seconds of the period to give the Crusaders a 17-2 lead at halftime
  • Reilly McCarthy scored off a pass from Emma Pherson just 12 seconds into the third.  Pherson scored a goal of her own at the 12:02 mark.  Sophia Browning scored the final goal of the period, and The Abbey held a 23-3 lead heading into the final quarter
  • In the fourth, it was Angela Bagatta scoring in the opening minute.  Grace Ridge scored the next two goals.  Bagatta scored the final goal Abbey goal of the contest, to help the Crusaders wrap up the 28-5 victory
  • On the day, D'Andrea scored five goals and handed out an assist, for a total of six points.  She also picked up a game-high five ground balls
  • Carlino scored five goals of her own.  Pherson won seven draw controls

Belmont Abbey will visit Lee on Saturday, March 5.  That game will start at 1 p.m.
