Crusaders Move to 11-0, Second Game Rained Out

Box Score EMORY, VA. – The Belmont Abbey softball team moved to 11-0 on the season thanks to a 6-0 victory over Emory & Henry in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader Tuesday at Wasps Field.

The second game of the doubleheader was postponed at the end of the second inning due to inclement weather.

THE OPENER
  • Belmont Abbey got on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning thanks to a three-run home run from Payton Whitley. It was her fifth home run of the season to lead the team.
  • The Abbey extended the lead to 5-0 in the fifth thanks to a two-run home run from Cameron Cooper.
  • The final run of the opener came in the top of the seventh thanks to an RBI single from Kellee Branham.
  • Emma Frye and Hallie Mele led Belmont Abbey with two hits each.
  • Abby Craver picked up her sixth win of the season with a complete-game shutout. She struck out seven and allowed just four hits in the victory.

THE NIGHTCAP
  • The only hit of the second game through the first two innings for The Abbey came with a single from Whitley in the top of the first inning.
  • Two full innings had been completed before the game was called due to weather.

UP NEXT
  • The Crusaders head on the road for another doubleheader at Augusta beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday.
