BELMONT, N.C. – Five Belmont Abbey women's basketball players finished in double figures scoring as the Crusaders defeated Chowan 76-63 in a pivotal Conference Carolinas contest Friday at the Wheeler Center.
Taylor Stelley led the Crusaders with 15 points, including three 3-pointers.
Brittany Autry added 14 points and six blocks while
Jo Snow finished with 13 points and a game-high seven assists.
Belmont Abbey moves to 17-8 overall and 15-6 in league play. Chowan is now 14-9, 14-7.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Alexis Schulz had the opening 3-pointer for the Crusaders as part of her 11 points. She also had five assists.
- The Crusaders outscored the Hawks 10-4 over the final 3:30 of the first quarter to get back within 20-17 after the end of the first quarter.
- Brittany Autry's layup with 8:10 in the second quarter gave The Abbey its first lead of the game at 23-22.
- Peyton Nation and Keyanna Spivey successfully converted 3-point plays on consecutive possessions in the second quarter to help give extend the Belmont Abbey lead.
- Spivey finished with 12 points and eight rebounds for The Abbey.
- Nation had nine points to go with six rebounds, two assists, and four blocks.
- Belmont Abbey had its strongest quarter coming out of halftime, shooting 56.3% from the field and taking a 63-50 lead entering the final 10 minutes.
- The 67-52 lead with 8:52 remaining in the game was the largest lead of the contest for The Abbey.
- The Crusaders finished with a dozen blocks for the game.
- Belmont Abbey finished with 20 assists for the contest.
BEING RECOGNIZED
Brittany Autry was honored prior to the start of the game for surpassing 1,000 career points during the game against Barton Jan. 29.
