MARS HILL, N. C. -- Mario Lacy, Jr., and KJ Garrett each topped 20 points but Wingate jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in a 98-81 victory over Belmont Abbey Friday afternoon. The game was played as part of the SAC-Conference Carolinas Challenge at Mars Hill.

Lacy tallied 25 points on 11 of 11 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds, while Garrett added 21 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Ryan Maslow hit five of six three-pointers on the way to 15 points.
• Mason Taylor, a transfer from Kilgore College, tallied 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds in his Crusader debut.
• Garrett added four assists. 
• Belmont Abbey shot 57.1 percent from the field. Wingate connected at a 53.8 percent clip.
• The Bulldogs held a 37-26 rebounding edge and committed five fewer turnovers. They also made 11 more free throws, taking 10 more attempts. 

UP NEXT

• The Abbey will face host Mars Hill tomorrow night.
• The contest is at 7:30 following a Converse-Wingate match that is also part of the challenge.
