CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Belmont Abbey rallied from a 12-5 halftime deficit to clinch the Southern Rugby Conference championship with a 27-12 win at The Citadel.

The victory was the fifth in as many outings this season and provided a two-game lead over Lander with just one to play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Mateo Carrazana scored in the first minute for a 5-0 lead, but The Citadel answered with two tries and a conversion before intermission.
• Ben Waters ran in a try five minutes into the second half, tying the score at 12 after Shay Brady hit the conversion
• Brady's penalty kick put the Crusaders up 15-12 before Josiah Bown scored a try from short range for a 20-12 lead
• Kenneth Byrd rounded out the tries late in the contest with Brady adding the kick for the final margin.

UP NEXT

• Belmont Abbey closes out the season with a trip to Lander on Nov. 12.
• The Crusaders defeated the Bearcats 46-0 back on Oct. 7.
