Crusaders Close Season With 1-1 Draw at Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA.—The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team closed out the 2022 season with a 1-1 draw at Emmanuel Saturday night in the final Conference Carolinas match of the regular season for both teams.
 
Mackenzie Toms scored his first career goal in the first half for the Crusaders after the Lions got on the board first in the contest.
 
Belmont Abbey closes the season with a 3-10-4 overall record and 2-5-4 mark in the conference. Emmanuel closes the regular season at 5-7-2, 4-5-2.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kensly Owens took the first shot of the match for the Crusaders in the 14th minute.
  • Emmanuel got on the scoreboard first with a penalty kick in the 33rd minute.
  • Seconds later, Belmont Abbey pulled even with the goal from Toms off an assist by Zion Duncan.
  • The Crusaders were able to get two shots on goal within the final 11 minutes of the contest.
  • Belmont Abbey finished with six shots for the contest, three on target.
  • Nikolaus Opel made five saves in his final appearance for the Crusaders.
