BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team hosted Francis Marion in a Conference Carolinas match against Francis Marion Monday at Alumni Field. The game was made up after it was initially postponed due to Hurricane Ian on October 1.
The Crusaders battled to a scoreless tie in the first 70 minutes but the Patriots found the game-winning goal in the 74th minute to earn a 1-0 victory on Monday.
Belmont Abbey is now 2-10-3 on the season and 1-5-3 in the conference. Francis Marion is now 6-5-4 overall and 5-2-2 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Will Whitman got the start in goal for The Abbey and finished with four saves.
- The Crusaders had an early chance in the second minute when a header went off the crossbar in the second minute.
- Belmont Abbey and Francis Marion each had four shots in the first 45 minutes.
- The Patriots' lone goal came in the 74th minute.
- The Abbey finished with five shots, one on target.
