BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey men's basketball team closed out the weekend with its second straight victory at home with a 108-72 win over Barton in Conference Carolinas play Saturday at the Wheeler Center. It is the third victory in the last four contests for the Crusaders.
Ryan Maslow led The Abbey with a career-best 18 points, including four 3-pointers. He also added four rebounds and was one of seven Crusaders to reach double figures scoring.
Belmont Abbey moves to 11-8 overall and 9-6 in the conference with the victory. Barton is now 8-10 overall, 7-8 in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Charles Solomon got the scoring started with his layup at the 19:24 mark of the first half. He finished with 12 points and three blocked shots.
- Belmont Abbey created some separation in the first half with a 13-0 run to take a 27-15 lead with 7:07 left in the first half.
- The Crusaders capped off the half with a layup by Emmanuel Hernandez at the buzzer to take a 48-24 lead at halftime.
- Chandler Baker's 3-pointer to open the second half put him in double figures scoring for the eighth straight game. He finished with 16 points and made four 3-pointers.
- Mario Lacy, Jr. finished with 14 points and matched Quest Aldridge with a team-high eight rebounds.
- Belmont Abbey recorded a school record 13 blocks for the game led by four from Hernandez. Lacy and Solomon also added three each for The Abbey.
- Sean Halloran led the Crusaders with seven assists.
- Belmont Abbey also continued its hot shooting by finishing 8-of-14 from 3-point range in the second half. The Crusaders finished at 63.4 percent shooting for the contest.
- The Abbey surpassed 100 points for the second straight game and fourth in the last six contests.
- Freshman guard KJ Garrett made his first career start Saturday.
