TIGERVILLE, S.C. -
Brittany Autry scored 23 points to lead the Belmont Abbey women's basketball team past North Greenville 60-49 this afternoon. The Abbey now stands at 6-5 on the year, and 4-3 in Conference Carolinas play. North Greenville is now 3-10 overall, and 3-6 in Conference Carolinas play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first quarter was back and forth, with the teams trading the lead multiple times. Autry scored eight points in the opening quarter, and NGU led 15-14 when the quarter ended
- The Abbey defense was very strong in the second. The team outscored NGU 13-7 and only gave up one field goal in the period. BAC held a 27-22 halftime lead
- Alexis Schulz scored the first four Abbey points of the third. Midway through the period, a pair of free throws by Peyton Nation sparked a 14-0 Abbey run, capped by a layup from Nation. Belmont Abbey held a strong 45-33 lead heading into the final period
- In the middle of the fourth, a 3-point basket by Taylor Stelley gave BAC a 54-37 lead, its largest lead of the day. Spivey scored the final points of the day for The Abbey with a pair of free throws, and Belmont Abbey wrapped up the 60-49 win
- On the day, Autry scored 23 points and pulled down 16 rebounds, her third double-double this year
- Abigail Crane chipped in seven points and five rebounds
