BELMONT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey closed out the 2021 baseball season Friday afternoon with a pair of setbacks against Mount Olive.The Trojans took the opener 7-4 before capturing the nightcap 8-5.
The Crusaders close the campaign at 20-18, 18-13 and will enter the Conference Carolinas Tournament as the No. 4 seed, facing Erskine in a Thursday morning contest.
THE OPENER
	- Ben Gobbel led the offensive attack with a pair of singles. Ben Ferguson and Richard DeLaCruz also had hits.
 
	- Mount Olive jumped out to a 5-0 lead through three-and-a-half innings, but the Crusaders closed plated three in the fourth and one in the fifth.
 
	- Ferguson and Gobbel each doubled in a run in the fourth.
 
	- DeLaCruz hit a solo home run in the fifth to cap the Cruaders' scoring.
 
THE NIGHTCAP
	- Mason Dodd tallied three hits, including a two-run home run in the third.
 
	- Danny Cruz also homered in the third, cutting the margin to 5-3. He finished with two hits.
 
	- Gobbel added two hits as well.
