DUNCAN, S.C. - The Belmont Abbey Softball team earned a pair of wins today in the Conference Carolinas Softball tournament. The Crusaders started off the day with a 3-1 victory over top-seeded Erskine, then earned a 10-2 win over the number 5 seed Barton. With the wins, Belmont Abbey improves to 20-15 on the season.
GAME 1
- Afton Jessee got The Abbey on the board first, as the Crusaders capitalized on an Erskine error in the fifth inning.
- The Flying Fleet tied the game at 1 in the bottom of the inning
- In the sixth, Melissa Neyhouse singled home Morgan Smith to put the Crusaders in front again. Later in the inning, Neyhouse scored on a single by Payton Whitley to cap off the scoring
- Alannah Browne tossed three strikeouts and threw a complete game
GAME 2
- Game 2 was all Abbey. In the second inning, Neyhouse gave Belmont Abbey an early lead with a double that brought home Jessee and Smith
- Barton scored two runs in the fourth, but it was all they would get on Annabeth Watkins
- The Crusader offense exploded in the fourth, as Whitley hit a 2-RBI double, before Hailey Gass hit a 2-RBI triple, giving The Abbey a 6-2 lead
- The offensive firepower continued into the fifth, as Neyhouse knocked an RBI double up the middle, and scored on a single by Sydney Pon
- Gass then hit a single up the middle to bring home Whitley and complete the 10-2 victory
- Watkins threw all five innings, and threw four strikeouts with just one walk

Belmont Abbey will face the winner of King and North Greenville on Sunday.
