DUNCAN, S.C. -- Belmont Abbey closed out its best season in 15 years Sunday with a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to King in the Conference Carolinas Tournament. The Crusaders surrendered a leadoff, walk-off home run to Rikkelle Miller in the bottom of the seventh, ending the year at 20-16.
Payton Whitley had two of The Abbey's five hits, including an RBI triple in the third that evened the score at 1-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sydney Pon, Hailey Gass and Bailey Presley also had hits for the Crusaders.
- Belmont Abbey threatened to take the lead in the top of the seventh putting runners on second and third with two outs. But a strikeout ended the threat.
- Alannah Browne (7-7) took the loss, scattering seven hits. She walked one and struck out one.
