TIGERVILLE, S.C. -- Eighth-seeded Belmont Abbey split a pair of Conference Carolinas Women's Volleyball Tournament matches in pool play, defeating No. 9 Chowan 3-2, before falling to No. 1 North Greenville 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
With the results, NGU advances to the semifinals, while The Abbey ends its spring season at 6-9.
BELMONT ABBEY 3, CHOWAN 2 (13-25, 25-22, 24-26, 25-20, 15-12)
- The Crusaders twice rallied from a set down. After dropping the opening set, they took the second. The Hawks went up 2-1 only to see The Abbey answer.
- In the fifth set, BAC took four straight points following a 1-1 tie. The Hawks tied the score at 7-7, but Katie Williams registered a kill, then served an ace for a 9-7 lead. After a Hawk kill, three straight points went to The Abbey. At 13-12, Lauren Hamilton's kill and a Chowan error, ended the match.
- Hamilton registered a career-high 22 kills, while Cameron Young and Caitlyn Faber added each.
- Paige Rawlins posted a double-double of 48 assists, a career-high and 19 digs.
- Hailey Ryan led the defensive charge with 30 digs.
NORTH GREENVILLE 3, BELMONT ABBEY 0Â (25-20, 25-16, 25-17)
- Williams and Young tallied six kills each, while Sarah Wilson had five.
- Williams served four aces and had six digs, both team highs.
- Rawlins dished out 21 assists.
- North Greenville outhit Belmont Abbey .325 to .118.
