Bailey Presley went 4-for-7 on the day, as the Belmont Abbey Softball team team swept Lenoir-Rhyne this afternoon by scores of 7-3 and 4-1. The Abbey now stands at 11-11 on the year. Lenoir-Rhyne is now 16-10.
GAME 1
- L-R scored the first two runs of the contest, but two wild pitches by the Bears in the third resulted in two Abbey runs. Later in the inning, Morgan Smith doubled home Sydney Pon to give the Crusaders a 3-2 lead
- In the fifth, Hailey Gass knocked a double to right center, and later scored on a single by Mackenzie Sprinkle. BAC held a 6-2 lead when the inning ended
- Payton Whitley homered down the left field line in the sixth to make it a 7-2 Abbey lead, and the Crusaders took the contest 7-3
- Melissa Neyhouse went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI in the game
- Annabeth Watkins tossed four strikeouts and threw a complete game
GAME 2
- Belmont Abbey broke the game open in the third inning. Pon brought home Neyhouse for a score to put the Crusaders on the board. Later in the inning, a single by Smith scored Whitley and Presley, giving The Abbey a 3-0 lead
- Later, in the fifth, BAC capitalized on a Lenoir-Rhyne error, which Presley scored on for a 4-0 Crusader lead
- The Bears scored one run in the seventh, but it was not enough, as The Abbey sealed the 4-1 victory
- Presley went 3-for-4 in the game, with two runs scored
- Alannah Browne tossed three strikeouts in the win
UP NEXT
Belmont Abbey will return to conference action on Wednesday, April 7, when it hosts Converse. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
