Abbey Competes with Central Missouri in Elite Eight

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Brittany Autry scored 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting, but the Belmont Abbey women's basketball team lost a 65-42 decision in tonight's Elite Eight game.  It marks the deepest run in the NCAA Tournament in Belmont Abbey's history.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Keyanna Spivey started the game off with a basket, and drew a foul to put the Crusaders on top 3-0 20 seconds into the contest
  • The Crusaders ended the quarter on a 7-3 run, and trailed 20-10 at the end of the opening period
  • The Abbey opened up the second on a 4-0 to pull within six
  • Later in the half, the Crusaders defense gave up just one field goal in a span of three and a half minutes, but Central Missouri led 39-19 at halftime
  • Allie Downing scored five of the first six Abbey points of the third.  The defense stepped up near the end of the quarter, not giving up a single point in the last two minutes.  The Crusaders, however, trailed 57-33 heading into the final period
  • Spivey only needed 30 seconds into the fourth to spark a 6-2 run.  Defensively, Belmont Abbey only gave up one field goal in the first eight minutes of the period
  • The offense, however, was unable to make another run, and Central Missouri took the 65-42 victory
  • On the night, Autry was the Crusader leader, with 12 points and seven rebounds
  • Spivey added eight points and seven rebounds
  • Belmont Abbey was just the second team in the history of Conference Carolinas women's basketball to advance to the Elite Eight
