BELMONT, N.C. -Seven seniors celebrated their Senior Day this afternoon for the Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team, which won a 22-2 contest over Southern Wesleyan. With the victory, The Abbey improves to 6-1 on the season, with a 3-0 record against conference opponents. SWU is now 2-5, with a 2-2 Conference Carolinas mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Riley D'Andrea only needed 1:05 into the contest to get the Crusaders on the board, and The Abbey never gave up the lead after that. Christina Fabrizio, Alyssa Pearson, and Kylie Eastman all scored in the game's first five minutes
- The Belmont Abbey defense did not allow a shot for the first six minutes of the contest. Later in the half, Fabrizio, Pearson, and Emma Pherson all scored within 1:11 of each other to give The Abbey a 10-0 lead
- Kate Roberts capped off the scoring in the half for BAC, which led 11-1 at halftime
- D'Andrea scored each of the first two goals of the second half, while Eastman scored the next two
- D'Andrea and Jenn Smith would go on to score two more goals each, and the Crusaders wrapped up the 22-2 victory
- On the day, D'Andrea led the Crusaders with five goals and an assist
- Eastman scored four goals and handed out two assists. Alyssa Pearson won a season-high 14 draw controls
- As a team Belmont Abbey outshot Southern Wesleyan 45-5. The Crusaders also won 22 draw controls, to the Warriors' four
