Davisson Ties Career High in Abbey's Quarterfinal Win

BELMONT, N.C. - Irelynn Davisson tied a career-high 20 points as the #16 nationally-ranked Abbey women's basketball team defeated number 8 seed Lees-McRae 82-47 in Conference Carolinas Quarterfinal action this evening.  The Crusaders have now won 16 games in a row, and have a 20-2 record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After an early Lees-McRae basket, Belmont Abbey went on a 20-0 run.  The Crusaders never trailed in the contest.  BAC led 34-17 when the opening quarter ended
  • The second quarter was a defensive battle.  The Abbey only gave up one field goal in the opening 3:45 of the quarter.  A 7-2 run at the end of the period, sparked by a 3-pointer from Davisson, put the Crusaders in front 53-25 at halftime
  • Belmont Abbey opened the third with a 7-0 run.  The Abbey then held the Bobcats scoreless for three and a half minutes.  BAC held a 66-33 advantage heading into the final period
  • It took Alexis Schulz less than a minute into the fourth to knock down a 3-point shot.  Sydni Clawges scored the last six Abbey points of the contest, and the Crusaders wrapped up the 82-47 victory
  • On the night, Davisson was the Crusader leader with a game-high 20 points
  • Allie Downing and Maria Kuhlman added 10 points each
  • The Abbey blocked nine shots, including three each from Kelli Thomas and Shelby Darden
  • BAC as a unit shot 52.8& from the field, while holding the Bobcats to 30.8% on the night
