BRISTOL, Tenn. -
Brittany Autry posted a double-double, helping the Belmont Abbey women's basketball team win a close 58-57 contest this afternoon at King. With the victory, The Abbey improves to 12-2 on the year, with a 8-1 Conference Carolinas record. King now stands at 4-5 overall, with a 3-5 conference mark. Belmont Abbey has now won eight games in a row.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Autry scored four points early in the contest. Belmont Abbey ended the first quarter on a 9-0 run, and led 20-19 at the end of the period
- In the second, it was The Abbey's defense that played very strong, giving up just one field goal over the first five minutes of the quarter. Later in the period, Keyanna Spivey scored four points in 41 seconds
- Sydni Addison capped off the scoring in the second, and Belmont Abbey held a 37-29 lead at halftime
- The teams traded baskets early in the third. Four straight points by Kelli Thomas gave The Abbey a 12-point lead, its largest of the game. The Crusaders held a 52-44 lead heading into the final period
- Hannah Roney got the scoring started for The Abbey in the fourth. From there, BAC was able to hold King scoreless in the final three minutes to win the contest 58-57
- On the day, Autry was the leader for Belmont Abbey, finishing with 14 points, 14 rebounds, two blocked shots, and two steals
- Keyanna Spivey added 13 points, six rebounds, and a steal. Thomas scored seven points, pulled down eight boards, and blocked three shots
