Crusaders Rally Past Lenoir-Rhyne for 13-11 Win

HICKORY, N.C. -- Mackenzie Kaderabek and Riley D'Andrea each scored four goals and Belmont Abbey rallied from an 11-10 deficit in the final six minutes to defeat Lenoir-Rhyne 13-11 in women's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon.

Kylie Eastman tallied two goals and had four assists for six points as the Crusaders improved to 2-1 on the season. L-R saw its record evened at 1-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Trailing 11-10 after a goal with 6:18 to play, Eastman evened the game at 11 with an unassisted goal at the 5:36 mark. Just over two minutes later, she assisted Kaderabek on the game-winner.
  • Jenn Smith added an insurance goal with 2:16 remaining to seal the victory.
  • Belmont Abbey had trailed 3-0 in the first five minutes, before D'Andrea got The Abbey on the scoreboard 8:23 into the contest. It was the first of five straight Crusader goals over the next 10 minutes of action.
  • The Bears cut the margin to 5-4 before D'Andrea and Kaderabek scored 35 seconds apart to push the margin back to three.
  • Each team scored in the final 3:13 of the half to make the score 8-6 at intermission.
  • The Abbey scored the first two goals of the second half to lead 10-6, but L-R answered with five in a row to take the lead.
  • Lexi Wright and Emma Pherson also enjoyed multi-point games.
  • Michelle Guppy had seven saves in getting the win.

  • After three straight games on the road, Belmont Abbey opens its home season Saturday against Lander.
  • The match begins at 4 p.m. at Alumni Field.
