Autry's 28 Points Lead Abbey Past Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - Brittany Autry scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Belmont Abbey women's basketball team past Mount Olive 70-62 this evening.  With the victory, the Crusaders improve to 14-2 on the season, with a 10-1 Conference Carolinas record.  The Trojans dipped to 6-4 on the season, and 6-4 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Keyanna Spivey got the scoring started for The Abbey, though the Crusaders trailed 17-7 when the first quarter ended
  • Autry only needed 13 seconds into the second to get the Belmont Abbey scoring going
  • 1 6-0 run late in the second pullled BAC to within six, at 30-24.  Spivey scored the last four points of the period to make it a 32-28 UMO lead at halftime
  • The teams traded baskets early in the third, before the Crusader defense came on, and gave up just two field goals in the last five minutes of the quarter.  The Trojans held a 48-40 advantage going into the final period
  • The fourth quarter was all Abbey.  Four seconds into the period Taylor Stelley nailed a three-point shot
  • Stelley then scored four points in a row to spark a 17-0 Abbey run.  At one point during the run, Autry scored seven points in a row for BAC.  The run put the Crusaders in front 60-53 with 2:15 to play
  • In the final minute of the contest, Stelley again scored four straight points.  Allie Downing made two free throws to finish off the 70-62 win
  • As a unit, the Crusaders shot 9-17 from the field in the fourth quarter, and 10-13 from the free throw line
  • On the day, Autry was the Crusader leader with a career-high 28 points, while also grabbing eight rebounds
  • Stelley scored 10 points, and handed out three assists.  Spivey added 12 points and eight boards
