Matteo Miselli tallied a career-high 21 kills and
Brennan Davis recorded a double-double of 37 assists and 13 digs, leading Belmont Abbey to a 3-1 (25-21, 25-22, 22-25, 25-23) victory over Emmanuel in Conference Carolinas men's volleyball action Friday night at the Wheeler Center.
The Crusaders (5-0 overall and 3-0 in league play) are now just one win away from tying the best undefeated start in school history. Emmanuel falls to 0-5, 0-3 with the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Miselli hit .375 in the contest with nine errors in 46 attempts. He also added two assists, two aces and four digs.
- Brian Long registered nine kills without an error in 18 attempts (.500). He also had a team-best five blocks (one solo, four assists) and three digs.
- Justin Kean had six digs, while Matthew Maxwell added five.
- Belmont Abbey hit .267 in the contest, including a blistering .462 in the opening set. Holding a slim 20-19 lead, the Crusaders scored four of the next five points to pull away.
- In the second set, the teams were tied at 21 when consecutive points started another 4-1 run.
- After Emmanuel extended the match with a win in the third, The Abbey led 21-17. The Lions won three straight points, but could never get the equalizer. A kill by Long ended the match.
UP NEXT
- Belmont Abbey welcomes Mount Olive to the Wheeler Center next Friday.
- The Crusaders will be seeking their six straight win to open the campaign, the same mark established in 2016.
