Keyanna Spivey scored 12 4
th-quarter points to guide the Belmont Abbey women's basketball team past Emmanuel this afternoon 70-63. With the victory, the Crusaders stand at 8-2 this season, with a 4-1 conference record. Emmanuel is now 6-2 overall, and 4-2 in Conference Carolinas play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Maria Kuhlman tallied a basket and an assist in the first 1:07 of the contest. The Abbey defense also came out strong, not giving up a single point in the game's first three minutes
- Belmont Abbey went on a 5-0 run in the last minute of the period to tie the score at 11
- Midway through the second, the Crusaders scored eight points in a 1:37 span to take a 24-18 lead
- Kelli Thomas closed out the scoring in the half for the Crusaders, and BAC held a 30-24 lead at halftime
- Midway through the third, Emmanuel tied the game at 36, but back-to-back 3-pointers by Kuhlman put The Abbey in front 41-38
- Taylor Stelley closed out the scoring for the Crusaders in the third, and Belmont Abbey led 48-43 heading into the final period
- Keyanna Spivey scored five straight Abbey points early in the fourth to give BAC a 54-49 advantage. Later in the quarter, she again scored five straight for The Abbey, including a three-point play that broke a 61-61 tie
- Belmont Abbey made its free throws at the end of the game to seal the 70-63 win
- On the day, Spivey was the Crusader leader with 16 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter. She also grabbed seven rebounds for BAC
- Alexis Schulz finished with 11 points, including 4-for-6 from the field
