WILSON, N.C. - Senior George Barfoot earned a 6-3, 6-2 win, and the Belmont Abbey men's tennis team earned a 6-1 victory at Barton this afternoon. The team also lost a home match to Fairmont State 5-2, putting the Crusaders at 7-8 on the season. They turned out to be the team's final matches, as the NCAA as well as several conferences decided to suspend indefinitely the remainder of the season, due to COVID-19 concerns.
How it Happened
- The Abbey dominated singles play against Barton, winning five of the six matches. Zachary Blythe had an impressive singles match, earning a 6-1, 6-3 victory
- Barfoot won his #2 singles match 6-3, 6-2, moving to 5-2 on the season, and 2-0 against Conference Carolinas opponents
- Gabriel Martin had a convincing 6-1, 6-1 victory at #4 singles
