Abrom's 34 Lifts Belmont Abbey to 89-82 Win

BELMONT, N.C. -- DeQuan Abrom scored 34 points and Romeao Ferguson just missed a triple-double, leading Belmont Abbey to an 89-82 victory over North Greenville in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action Saturday night. Ferguson finished the contest with 19 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, the third time he has been within two rebounds or assists of a triple-double.

The Abbey improves to 14-9, 9-6 in league play, while NGU falls to 10-12, 7-9.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Abrom connected on 12 of 20 field goals -- including five three-pointers -- in topping 30 points for the seventh time this season.
  • Emanuel Hernandez added a career-high 12 points, while Ryan Shaffer had 10 points.
  • The Abbey hit 60.4 percent from the field as a team, the fourth time this year it has topped 60 percent.
  • The hosts also had a 28-25 rebounding advantage and forced 19 turnovers to their 17.
  • North Greenville, which hit 18 three-pointers to win the first meeting, made 12 of 22 attempts (54.5%).
  • NGU led 30-25 after a 7-0 run, but BAC tallied nine straight points to retake the lead. An Abrom three with 30 seconds left in the half, helped The Abbey to a 39-38 margin at the break.
  • In the second, North Greenville managed to tie the score at 41 and 42, but seven straight points put The Abbey ahead for good.
