Box Score BELMONT, N.C. – Maria Kuhlman scored 14 points at the 10th-ranked Belmont Abbey women's basketball team earned a 82-61 victory over Emmanuel. The win puts The Abbey at 24-2 on the season, with a 19-1 Conference Carolinas record. The Lions are now 17-9 overall and 14-6 in conference play.
How it Happened
- The Crusaders went up 5-0 early, and held Emmanuel scoreless for the first five minutes of the contest. The Abbey led 12-8 when the quarter expired
- In the second, the Crusader defense was stellar, giving up no field goals over the first seven minutes of the quarter. Meanwhile, BAC went on a 10-0 run, capped by a Keyanna Spivey layup, to take a 26-10 lead
- Allie Downing made a layup in the closing seconds of the quarter, and the Crusaders held a 39-23 lead at halftime
- Hannah Roney and Maria Kuhlman each made two three-pointers to open the third for The Abbey, giving the Crusaders a strong 51-34 lead
- Roney made a basket and hit a free throw in the closing seconds to give the Crusaders a 62-43 lead heading into the final period
- Kuhlman scored five points in the opening minutes of the fourth. From there, BAC held the Lions offense to a minimum, and finished off the 82-61 win
- On the night, Kuhlman was the Crusader leader, with 14 points, six rebounds, and five assists
- Downing scored 18 points, while Spivey added 15 and six boards. Alexis Schulz pulled down seven rebounds
